STIEBEL ELTRON: Home Ventilation Also for Retrofitting
Clean out the viruses, bring in fresh air
Fresh air at all times without having to open the windows – street noise, dust and pollen are kept out: home ventilation offers numerous advantages. Another good reason: the higher the air exchange rate, the fewer aerosols and hence also viruses are present in the air. "Ventilate, ventilate, ventilate" is the order of the day when staying in closed rooms. "If the apartment is already equipped with the appropriate technology, as many new buildings are, you naturally benefit because you can increase the air exchange rate quite simply by regulating it", says Dr Nicholas Matten, Managing Director STIEBEL ELTRON, a specialist in heating, cooling and ventilation using renewable energy.
"But there are also clever solutions for existing buildings that are easy to install and reliably ensure the air exchange rate at all times. The VLR 70 for example is simply installed in the outer wall, no further ducting is required". The units are used in pairs and work alternately - so that no negative or positive pressure is created in the room. The integrated, unique aluminium heat exchangers stay very clean due to their smooth surface. They not only recover a large part of the valuable thermal energy contained in the exhaust air, but also any humidity. This prevents the formation of excessively dry inside air. They can be installed in both square and round wall openings. With a special telescope housing, the provide a solution for wall thicknesses up to 80 centimetres. "With these units, the necessary minimum air exchange can also be reliably ensured in commercials spaces such as restaurants or pubs," says Matten.
Ventilation systems that ensure ventilation in a complete residential unit are generally used for larger renovation projects or in new buildings - such as the LWZ 180/280, which was specially developed for use in spacious apartments, detached houses or smaller commercial properties. Areas up to 250 square metres are easily supplied with fresh air via the one ventilation unit. The premium product has highly efficient fans, which not only reduce the noise level, but also ensure an even, balanced volume flow - and thus provide a pleasant living climate. With these systems, up to 93 percent of the thermal energy can be recovered from the exhaust air.
The LWZ 8 CS is the right choice for new single-family homes: it combines all building services functions in one unit. It integrates an air-to-water heat pump for heating and domestic hot water preparation as well as a ventilation system with heat recovery. The connection of a solar thermal system is just as possible as its use in conjunction with a photovoltaic system. In addition, the device can also be used to cool the building.
"Proper ventilation - regular and reliable - is an important element for the well-being and health of people who spend time in enclosed spaces," says Dr. Nicholas Matten. "With appropriate building technology, which can also be retrofitted relatively easily, it is guaranteed that the air quality is correspondingly high at all times, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. So staying at home can feel like going away".
