Interaction of smart single room and heat pump control

Intelligent single room control which communicates with the central heat generator and thus enables highly efficient operation of the heat pump: the WPM system from Stiebel Eltron offers just this – with a combination of the latest-generation WPM heat pump manager and Easytron Connect single room control. Single room control is usually realised with thermostats on the radiators or the floor heating circuit. There is usually no direct interaction with the heat generator – but this is precisely what the Stiebel Eltron Easytron Connect solution does.

Intelligent single room control which communicates with the central heat generator and thus enables highly efficient operation of the heat pump: the WPM system from Stiebel Eltron offers just this – with a combination of the latest-generation WPM heat pump manager and Easytron Connect single room control. Single room control is usually realised with thermostats on the radiators or the floor heating circuit. There is usually no direct interaction with the heat generator – but this is precisely what the Stiebel Eltron Easytron Connect solution does.

The smart single room control consists of a control centre, wireless actuators for connection to radiators, sensors for measuring the room temperature and a heating controller for the connection of actuators for the floor heating. There is radio communication between the individual components so that the distribution system always has the ideal setting depending on the ambient temperature and the room temperature. The system’s control centre is additionally connected to the heat pump with a protocol. On the one hand this ensures that the heat generator is better configured to the requirements of the building – the optimum flow temperature is adjusted accordingly –, and on the other hand the distribution system is able to react optimally to certain operating states of the heat pump. For example, when the de-icing cycle is imminent for a connected air-water heat pump, all valves can be set to maximum opening – to guarantee a sufficient flow rate at all times.

The new modular control system is ideal for use with Easytron Connect. At the heart of the WPM system is the new WPM heat pump manager, which if required is conveniently connected via the Stiebel Eltron system bus with the components WPE (add-on module) and FET (remote control).

As the basic system module the WPM heat pump manager already offers numerous functions – for example control of a cascade of two on-off or inverter heat pumps or one direct and two mixed heating circuits. It is operated intuitively and conveniently with a touch wheel. Software updates can be conveniently installed with an SD memory card. A heat meter is integrated, as is a floor heating program and an error output (230 V). An Internet interface and KNX Smart Home compatibility are optional features. The WPE module expands the functional reception of the new controller: two additional mixed heating circuits can be controlled and up to four further heat pumps can be managed, which means that in total a six-unit cascade can be used. Swimming pool and circulation pump management are also available.

Each of the total of five heating circuits possible can be controlled with one FET remote control. The illuminated graphic display shows various data such as the time, room temperature and humidity and the ambient temperature. A comfortable temperature is simple to set with the touch wheel.

All components of the new control system boast reliable functionality, convenient operation and easy installation and they are seamlessly integrated in the award-winning Stiebel Eltron design language.
